Sarnia, ON - October 16, 2024 - Bioindustrial Innovation Canada, a leader in supporting the commercialization of clean, green, and sustainable technologies, is pleased to announce the appointment of Rose Marie Gage as the new Chair of the Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC) and Sustainable Chemistry Alliance (SCA) Boards. BIC also extends its gratitude to outgoing Chair, Jean Hamel, for his dedicated service to BIC, SCA and the greater bioeconomy ecosystem.
Rose Marie Gage brings a wealth of experience as a champion of innovation, sustainability (corporate, environmental and social), governance, and change management. As a seasoned board professional, Rose Marie is recognized for her leadership in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and for her ability to navigate both national and international commercial opportunities. Her expertise in government relations, coupled with extensive network across the agricultural, agri-food, clean tech and energy sectors in Canada will be invaluable to BIC as the organization continues to build on its natural resource foundations while expanding its connections within key manufacturing industries.
"We are excited to have Rose Marie expand her work on BIC’s Board by assuming the role of Chair. Her deep understanding of sustainability and good governance principles will strengthen our capacity to support emerging companies as they commercialize and scale their green technologies in the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon Canadian economy," said Meaghan Seagrave, Executive Director, BIC.
Rose Marie is supported by BIC’s new Vice-Chair, Greg Maloney. Greg’s extensive experience in business growth and technology commercialization has proven beneficial to the organization’s programs and strategic investments. "Greg has been a strategic addition to the organization since his welcome to the board in 2019. His work with the Audit and Finance, and Investment Management Committees has supported the organization’s path to sustainability as well as our strategic investments,” said Seagrave.
BIC extends its sincere thank you to Jean Hamel, whose tenure included 3 terms as director and a fourth term as Chair of the Board of both BIC and SCA. Jean brought over 30 years of experience in the forest products industry, as Chief Engineer at FPInnovations. Jean has been instrumental in driving projects aimed at supporting research and development (R&D), and commercialization in biobased products. Under his leadership, multiple pilot and demonstration projects were initiated by BIC portfolio companies, and innovative commercialization and validation programs were launched under the BIC umbrella to advance sustainable technologies in Canada.
“We are grateful to Jean for his exceptional leadership and commitment to advancing BIC’s mission,” said Seagrave. “His contributions have strengthened our ability to support innovation and sustainability in Canada’s bioeconomy.”
