SARNIA (October 4, 2022) – Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC) is pleased to announce the addition of five new members to the Board of Directors who bring a unique range of experience, expertise, and diversity to the organization.
In July, BIC made an open call for applications to the Board to fill five seats. After conducting a thorough review of over 40 qualified candidates, the five open seats have been filled by individuals from across the country who will add extensive experience to BIC’s focus on growing organizational awareness and momentum, nationwide.
With leadership experience in research and development, business and financial strategy, and technical and sustainability expertise in both industry and natural resource sectors, this group of exceptional individuals is a tremendous asset to BIC as it extends its mandate across Canada.
Ms. Denise LeBlanc-MacDonald joins BIC from Halifax, Nova Scotia where she is the General Director of the Aquatic and Crop Resource Development Research Centre (ACRD) at the National Research Council (NRC). Denise brings a pan-Canadian perspective as she is responsible to research centres in Saskatchewan, Quebec, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Denise has held assignments as the Acting Director General of the NRC Institute for Marine Biosciences and as a strategist in Ottawa with the Vice-President of Corporate Services. Recently, she was on assignment as the Director General responsible for the approvals and design leading to the construction of a GMP-compliant clinical trial material facility.
Joining from Vancouver, British Columbia is Mr. Martin Gagel, the Founder and Principal of Market Radius Capital where he provides investor communications, CEO interviews, and advisory services. Martin is a capital markets and venture company professional with broad experience across numerous industries and technologies. He was also a top-ranked sell-side analyst for 20 years and is “very interested in green, clean technologies and helping entrepreneurs succeed.”
Mr. Murali Reddy comes to BIC from Belleville, Ontario. Murali is an experienced innovation and technology manager with expertise in new product development, commercialization, technology strategy, and execution for a tier 1 automotive supplier, where he has gained expertise in biobased materials, circularity, sustainability, and plastics. In addition, Murali has over 10 years of experience in research and development management, commercialization, and new product development.
Mr. Paul Richards joins BIC from Wolfville, Nova Scotia where he is the Manager of Industrial Biotechnology and Agri-Technology for Innovacorp. Paul is a creative thinker that identifies and capitalizes on emerging opportunities to achieve dynamic and innovative outcomes. He brings to BIC his extensive networks and knowledge in the bioeconomy with a proven ability to support early-stage company growth. Paul has strong technical and business qualifications with an impressive track record to support the commercialization of clean technology from the idea stage to project financing.
Ms. Sarah Marshall joins BIC from Calgary, Alberta where she is Vice President of Sustainability with NOVA Chemicals. In her current role, she is responsible for leading NOVA’s long-term Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, and managing the areas of Climate Care, Corporate Environment and ESG Reporting. In her previous role as Director of Sustainability, Sarah worked with supply chain partners, customers, government officials, industry associations and others to help create innovative solutions for mechanical and advanced recycling for plastic materials. As a leading expert on the plastics circular economy, industrial decarbonization, and broader sustainability issues, Sarah is an excellent fit to help advance BIC’s mission, and vision while supporting BIC’s portfolio companies.
